Watch the Jargon

I had the pleasure of working for a couple of Fluke distributors over the years. One of Fluke’s premiere products was a line of process calibrators that featured the ability to save calibration measurements and document the readings via software. We referred to the products as Documenting Process Calibrators, or DPCs for short.

Since we worked with the products every day, we knew exactly what a DPC was, and never called them anything else. Even when we were talking to customers! Big mistake! Of course our customers had no idea what we were talking about.

Every company has its jargon. Just be aware of yours, and be careful not to fall in the trap of using it in front of customers.
